Title: Toolmaker

Location: Bethel, CT 06801, USA

Pay Rate: $40/hour

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Summary

The Toolmaker supports manufacturing and engineering departments by producing various production and prototype components, fixtures, and tools. This role involves machining complex tooling, performing secondary operations, and assisting with training in machine shop practices.

Responsibilities

• Machine complex tooling and fixtures in collaboration with Manufacturing and Design Engineering.
• Perform secondary operations on production units using manual multi-axis mills, lathes, drill presses, shears, saws, etc.
• Set up and run manual machine shop equipment, including surface grinders.
• Work from drawings, prints, and/or work instructions.
• Develop, fabricate, and sharpen various cutting and specialty tools.
• Inspect GD&T features using basic and advanced inspection techniques.
• Cut open welded units to complete production operations.
• Assist shop management in training employees on machine shop practices and company-specific procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

• High mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to read blueprints.
• Proficiency in trigonometry.
• Working knowledge of computers.
• Understanding of chip formation and metal cutting mechanics.
• Knowledge of ANSI/EIA RS-274 (“G” code NC programs).
• High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
• 3+ years of experience as a toolmaker.
• Experience or formal education in design/drafting with emphasis on CAD.
• Reside within a reasonable commuting distance.

Preferred:

• Associate’s degree in a technical field.
